Everyone has a preference for how they like to ring in the New Year, ranging from completely ignoring the event to participating in a huge bash. But no matter how you choose to do it, it’s always nice to put a little elegant spin on the evening. Here are some ideas for New Years Eve, with styling tips for a posh New Year’s Eve serving bar.
The first step is to begin with the most special piece of furniture you can muster, preferably high enough to function as a server. This piece is a French antique I found in Pennsylvania and is easily the loveliest piece I own.
Next I added the crystal candelabra with glittered silver candles. This is one evening you really don’t need to hold back when piling on the shimmer.
My silver wine caddy fit perfectly with this tableau. Also French, it’s a lovely way to present your best wine or champagne to your guests. Revelers can enjoy the glitter dusted noise makers waiting nearby.
These gilded snack plates are aptly sized for special treats and what better time than New Year’s to indulge in a bit of caviar?
My favorite crystal champagne flutes surround a silver antique ice bucket and are delivered on a silver tray.
For New Year’s I like to use clock imagery to underscore the passing of time. These DIY napkins rings I put together using jewelry wire, clock charms and beads, added to a simple lucite ring.
Other clocks, real and faux, are scattered about the server, reinforcing the concept.
For a touch more bling, I set these smoky crystal bobeches atop the golden sconces. The chunky crystal pieces were found in a tiny shop in a hilltop town in Provence.
An ornate gilded mirror hangs above the scene, helping to reflect the light and glimmer.
The wintery lovebirds are perched on one of the clocks, seemingly ready to propose a toast.

Beautiful, as always. I love your napkin ring idea and the use of clocks to remind us of the passing of time. Your lovely photos and design style have inspired me and renewed my interest in decorating my own home. Thank you!
Thanks Kimberly! I can’t tell you how much that means to me to hear something I’ve posted has inspired someone… 🙂
Happy New Year, Lory! The bar you’ve created is both elegant and functional. I LOVE your flutes!!!!!! Like most Ralph Lauren designs, they appear to be quite substantial. I can just imagine running my finger over the ridges between sips. (OK, OK…I’m busted. Between GULPS! 🙂 )
Your clock theme is a terrific one, and I like the way you even brought the them into the napkin rings!
Here’s hoping your 2015 will be your best year yet! Cheers!
Alycia, I wish you the happiest of New Years, as well!! I really hope to have some more time this year to visit my favorite bloggers more. You seem to have worked out a good schedule to visit and comment and I need to work some of that in, too. We share the same taste and I’d like to get over to your blog and some of the others more. Thanks, as always for the encouragement!! Cheers back!
