Fall Table Decorations: Styling a Soft and Neutral Fall Table Setting
In this post: Are you looking for fall table decorations with understated color? Be inspired by this neutral fall table setting in blush pink and brown.⇒
White pumpkins, soft colors, neutral everything…
it feels like I’m seeing these things everywhere and yet it’s just where my own aesthetic head is right now, too.
It’s not that I completely hate orange, and I am planning to get more into richer fall colors as the season progresses, but for right now, I’m all about the soft warmth the change of seasons brings.
So, for today’s post I’m talking about how to style a soft and neutral fall table setting.
Neutral Fall Table Setting
By now, most of my readers well know about my penchant for dressing my tables in scarves and blankets, so this table is no different.
I began with a very cuddly tan plaid blanket that would be quite comfortable in a stadium, and that served as my underpinning. The neutral tones drove my color palette while the scrumptious wooly feel forecast the season.
The plate stack is bolstered by warm brown rattan chargers, topped with tonal cream dinner plates and subtly patterned salad plates with French dessert motifs.
(See source list at the bottom of the post.)
For napkins I used my soft blush linens with ruffled edging, clasped within a copper ring. The pale rosy tone offers just a hint of color, imparting warmth while staying nearly neutral.
I love the contrast of linen against wool, masculine and feminine, summer and fall.
I found roses with just a whisper of color and added eucalyptus for its romantic wispy drape.
Glassware flutes in pale pink once again add a rosy glow. There’s a dryness to this color palette that ensures it’s reading neutral, and yet the infusion of warm tones keeps it fresh and new.
Ubiquitous copper mule mugs are a fun addition, and the blush tones on the table draw out the red undertones in the copper.
We’ve seen these mugs everywhere and yet they look once again fresh to me here, adding a tiny bit of gleam to an otherwise decidedly chalky palette.
I tried the floral in several receptacles until I felt satisfied with the silver teapot.
I always enjoy a mix of metals and this one felt right. I begin my tables with a very clear plan of color, concept and pattern, but when I get to this stage of styling the details I’m often working by instinct.
The lovely woodsy cheese knives fit right in with the organic feel of the tablescape.
I added vintage books to prop up the centerpiece and to add a note of pedigree to the table. The charming worn leather patina feels at home on this table.
I enjoy mixing chairs styles around my table and the cane back chairs mix nicely with the lushly tufted ones.
And what’s a fall table without a few scattered pumpkins? I just love these white craft ones for their color and their texture.
The light coming through our windows makes this breakfast room a delightful place for a meal. In fact, I often prefer eating in here over serving in the dining room.
Have you got a favorite spot for a meal in your home?
There are countless different ways to style a fall table and they often revolve around interesting color palettes.
It is, no doubt, the season of color.
But not always the same colors, used in the same way!

It’s stunning, and the perfect segway from summer into fall, it has a slight fall theme but not overly so, the soft colors keep it feeling light and airy. Just lovely!
Thank you so much, Tina! Yes, I’m only slowly tip-toeing into fall, one color at a time… 😉
Once again you have hit a home run. Love the copper and silver mix. May I ask where the chair pad on your Cain chair is available??
Thanks, Diane!! The chair pad actually came with the chair which is the Darcy chair from Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic. I was going to link to the chairs and then saw they are no longer on the website. Sometimes you can find them on ebay. But I’ve also seen similar pads available individually. If I can find some I’ll add the link in… 🙂
Lory, I adore your color scheme! The browns, pinks, copper … highlighted with white. Just beautiful! All set against a beautiful window backdrop and tufted chairs. I love all of it!
looks so nice Lory and I especially love those interesting little plates!
It’s stunning! the colors melt my heart. The copper silver and blush combo is perfection.
Thank you, Karen! I started loving copper last year, but this year with the neutrals it has an even fresher feel to me. I’m glad it resonated with you… 🙂
I just love the pink flutes and copper mugs together. What a great combination, easing into fall!
Thanks, Maryann! I tend to love warm colors, but always with a light touch. I’m glad you enjoy them too… 🙂
Hi Tina

Thanks, Shannon! Kind of a crazy week here, because it’s all about the kitchen renovation… to be revealed someday soon… well, not that soon. But hopefully somewhat soon… 😉
Lory, your setting is just lovely! I love the copper mixed with the soft hues. Very nice contrast!
Thank you, Shenita!

Cindy
Thanks, Cindy! You can never go wrong with white pumpkins… 😉
It would be so easy to cozy up to this soft table and linger for a very long time. The texture and colors work so well together and the copper accents are right on point.
Thanks, Sandra! I really had fun with that one. What I love about table settings is you only have to commit to a color palette for one night… 😉

Hi Lori,
Your tablescape is beautiful! I especially love those books! I collect books, most are just vintage but on a rare lucky day I’ve found some amazing 100-year-old books for a reasonable price.
The mixing of metals is beautiful, too!
Thank you for sharing with Thursday Favorite Things. I featured your blog this week.

Absolutely beautiful – love neutrals just as you do!
Soft pink with a warm brown works so well together. I’m admiring your wood handled utensils….! Love those!!
Where did you get the seat covers for your cane chairs? Or did they come with the chairs? I love them so much. It would be perfect for my dining chairs. Thank you.
The ones in the post came with the chairs, but I’ve since replaced them so that I could cover all the chairs, and I found a more relaxed linen seat cover. You can find it here: https://rstyle.me/+2rE2-J_KIXPYFOMhPO6S-Q
OH my heart! I love this color combination, and your gorgeous style makes it perfect! Thanks for the inspiration, once again!
Thank you my sweet friend!
Your table scape is truly stunning. I love the mix of metals, the pink and brown colors. What a lovely way to tradition from summer to fall. I was wondering about the cheese knives. Are these available anywhere?
Thank you so much! Not sure if those are still available but here is a similar set: https://rstyle.me/+Sh_Y2ygi1JJh0QFscCzOuA
Love the white plates! And your table looks very inviting. But there is no more space left for the food…
Thank you! I never put platters of food on the table. I either serve the plated food or do buffet style.
Soft pink and copper with some added warm caramel shades…looks awesome! I enjoy the warmth of that soft brown shade on just about anything…especially an updated bag for fall or some shoes?
Looks beautiful Lory.
Thank you so much!!
