Christmas Night Lights: Holiday Homes at Night Blog Tour
In this post: Does your holiday decor look as pretty at night as it does during the day? Check out these ideas for displaying Christmas night lights.⇒
Half the magic is in the twinkling lights.
There are so many elements to holiday decorating from selecting a color palette, to utilizing greenery, to trimming the trees and adding all the extras.
The one component often overlooked, or at least taken for granted, is the enchanting aura of Christmas lights.
It’s one thing to style your decor to look great during the day, when the sun is shining through the windows and all the colors are sharp and bright.
It’s another matter entirely to see the same decor at night. Everything looks completely different without the benefit of sunshine and the clarity it brings.
But despite the odd lighting that nighttime brings, with its peculiar affect on colors and shadows alike, it also affords the opportunity to really underscore the entrancing ambience of Christmas lights.
Today I’m joining a group of bloggers to show you our tours of Christmas at night, hosted by my friend Rachel from Maison de Pax. Please be sure to visit all of the other posts at the bottom of this one.
It’s only natural with my passion for tablescaping that my tour is centered in the dining room.
In the corner of the space is our very first tree (which I explain and share details about in THIS POST), and I did my best here to capture the magical twinkles.
Adorned in rose gold and silver ornaments and finials, even in the dark you can see the teacups that I wired to the tree for a personal touch.
The dinner table is set with simple elegance in mind, with nothing making too bold a statement. Much like you might see in a refined restaurant, I stayed very classic and neutral with my tabletop pieces and let the candlelight grab the spotlight.
I used elegant pewter chargers against the bare wood table, with creamy white dinner and salad plates with a textured border.
A delicate vintage china dessert cup with understated edging sits atop the plate stack, a refined little piece that only whispers a hint of patterning.
The one burst of color is a pretty poinsettia centered on the table and nestled in a silver footed bowl. It’s surrounded by a natural wreath, dotted with glittered ornamental orbs.
For stemware I chose two very different glasses, a heavy cut crystal goblet with a glen plaid pattern and a petite champagne flute with lush gold trim.
Both do a fantastic job of capturing and reflecting the light, which makes them well suited for this holiday gathering.
Candles are displayed on the sideboard as well as on the table. Between the tree lights and candlelight there’s no need for any overheads.
I actually love the way this lighting warms the room, as we haven’t yet put our overheads on dimmers and it gives a romantic glow to the space that’s perfect for dining.
I used white pillar candles against the shimmery silver candlesticks, and love the way they wink and blink.
Refined white napkins maintain an air of purity and refinement, as the crystal bracelet napkin rings provide another place to shine.
The baubles on the tree add to the charmed atmosphere, while on the nearby sideboard a chippy garden statue cherub takes in the scene.
The dark outside lends the perfect backdrop for the twinkling lights to be appreciated, as they’re reflected off the window panes, doubling the delight they offer.

Lory, your home is stunning!! Great decor, I love everything in your home. Love the drapes in the dining room, can you share the source please. Thank you and Happy Holidays to You and Yours.
Thank you so much! The washed belgian linen drapes are from Restoration Hardware.
Gorgeous! Everything sparkles…how did you get the beautiful flame on the candlestick holders?
Certain setting on your camera?
Thank you so much! Yes, you crank the aperture all the way up – at least f22 or more – and then you take the photo on an extremely slow speed. It has to be done on a tripod. The rest is done in editing since I still like to lighten the photos up more, plus the colors come out a little weird when taken in the dark. These were taken at night with the lights out.
I love the Christmas night lights! Your dining room is so pretty. I wasn’t going to use my tall large candle sticks but I may just change my mind!
