Fall Guest Bedroom Ideas: 6 Ways to Welcome Autumn Visitors
In this post: If you have guests visiting this autumn, here are 6 fall guest bedroom ideas to help your visitors feel welcome in your home.⇒
It’s fascinating to me how creative everyone has gotten with their travel this summer.
People renting RVs or staying at private guest cottages. It’s amazing how resilient and resourceful we’ve become.
And for those of us who haven’t traveled, we’ve focused on home projects instead. Now with fall arriving and the holidays on the horizon, we’re thinking about how to host again too!
Fall Guest Bedroom Ideas
This is the time of year I look at my home and assess its ability to accommodate guests. Is my dining room ready for holiday gatherings? Is my kitchen equipped to prepare these meals? Are the bedrooms primed for overnight travelers?
As I decorate my home for the fall season, I take particular pleasure in readying the guest rooms (we’re empty nesters so we have several), as I enjoy anticipating my friends’ and family’s needs and comfort.
Among my current projects, I’ve been working on updating the bedroom my son uses when he stays over. Located at the back of the house with it’s own bath, it’s the most private of the bedrooms and hence the most desirable room for visiting guests.
This is what the room looked like before the refresh…
Comfy yes, but a little severe. I wanted to soften it up and add seasonal elements for fall.
Today I’m sharing 6 fall guest bedroom ideas to help visitors feel welcome in your home.
A Cozy Bed
In any bedroom, this is the single most important element and in my updated guest room, it’s the place I began. The room was previously dominated by a dark wood sleigh bed and I wanted to lighten the room and provide more softness and comfort.
I added the rolled tufted headboard and everything followed from there. A soft array of quilted pillows and shams, combined with the upholstered headboard, offer a soothing place to relax before bed. The nubby throw pillow adds an extra note of warm fall texture.
Fresh Autumn Floral Arrangement
Fresh flowers are a must to welcome those staying overnight and a pretty autumn arrangement is just the thing that will do the trick. I chose soft colors to complement my new palette, yet used seasonal flowers like dahlias and mums to ensure the autumnal message is clearly conveyed.
Candlelight and Copper
A charming touch for the guest room is to include a selection of candles, to encourage a peaceful rest and a bit of pampering. Copper decorative pieces, whether new or vintage, are the perfect fall accompaniment for the glow of the candlelight, while a copper candle holder marries the two concepts in one piece.
Pillows and Blankets
It’s always nice to have a reading chair with an ottoman or table in the bedroom, and an assortment of pillows and throw blankets guarantees added comfort. A sweater knit pillow is a wonderful touch for fall, as is a chunky knit throw for chilly nights.
Hot Coffee or Tea
I’m always a fan of vintage teacups and have even been known to keep a coffee maker in the bedroom, as well. But a simple teapot filled with freshly served coffee or hot water can also work and if you can find a pumpkin shaped teapot for the fall season, all the better. Corral them on a tray for your guests’ convenience.
The final touch is the simplest one, but always a nice addition for fall, all the same. If you have a shelf or narrow tabletop, a sweet little line of mini pumpkins is a lovely way to honor the season. Of course, you can add pumpkins anywhere in the room, but you certainly don’t want guests tripping over pumpkins on the floor in the middle of the night. Placed carefully and sparingly, they make a delicate seasonal statement.
If you love entertaining, you no doubt enjoy setting up a guest room. These 6 guest bedroom ideas can be added in no time, and you can transform a bland sleep space into a welcoming home for visitors.
Then the next time you run into someone you haven’t seen all summer, you can feel comfortable inviting them to stay over to enjoy the warmth of the season!

I have been considering a new headboard for my guest room and thought about a fabric one. I love the look of your room and that it has a softness without being to frilly. I’m sure your son will appreciate that! I’m ordering the BH&G headboard and will let you know what I think about it. What is your wall color? Thanks!
I’m so glad to hear that Cecelia! The wall color is Benjamin Moore Gentle Cream, but to be honest, I’d love to change it to Alabaster.
Lory, that looks so pretty! Your guests are going to be so pampered and cozy. Love it all!
Thank you so much, Rhoda!!
Lovely guest room Lory! And your tips are great – makes me want to go update our guest room then hang out in it all day! 🙂 Thanks for yet another dose of inspiration! ❤️
You’re welcome! And isn’t that a fun idea to hang out in your own guest room? 😉
I have early November guests coming too and it’s time for a quick refresh on our guest bedroom. Thanks for the tips and easy links to affordable bedroom decor.
You are most welcome!!
This just makes me sigh! It’s so soft and pretty. The new headboard made such a difference too. Can I come and stay? Ha!
Absolutely!! And thank you for the sweet words!
Such a great post Lory. Love the headboard, everything flows beautifully. ~XO
Thank you so much, Denise!!
I have been looking for Euro shams – love those. Where are they from?
They’re from Pottery Barn. Here is the link: https://rstyle.me/+zPCXEtd6C36X0LjBJoxy8w They also happen to be on sale right now… 🙂
I’m planning to do a post with sources to all of my favorite bedding, so be on the lookout for that in a few weeks, too.
I love this whole vibe!! ? Where’s the bedding from?! P
Thank you!! Until I have a chance to add them here, you can find the sources in this post: https://designthusiasm.com/white-bedding-luxury-bed-linen/
I love your style! Can you tell me where the bedroom rug is from? Thank you!
Thank you so much! It’s actually wall to wall carpet from a local store. If I can find the details I will come back and update my comment… 🙂
Hi Lory! I am sure the chair in the corner is a one of a kind, but it’s such a beauty! Any idea on the brand or style so I could find something similar?
It’s actually not one of a kind… 🙂 I believe I got it from Ballard several years ago but you can find similar ones here: https://designthusiasm.com/10-affordable-french-country-chairs/ especially this one: https://rstyle.me/+pgqhPGQ3FWEBjjTWv7nHCw
I adore the copper accents. It certainly makes me long for fall. Thank you for sharing!
We just had our first guests in almost 3 years. I agree Lory times are strange but everyone seems to be making the best out of it.
I love the touch of light blue/green throw blanket with the Pillow covers that match.
Finding that just right throw blanket is hard. I searched all last year for that perfect nutty brown shade in a textured blanket and bought 2 from Target with my wonderful gift. So excited to finally have that warmth for fall look with them vs just my furry throws.
Sleigh beds are beautiful. They do take up more room I find. I love the one you chose!
I’m so glad you put the gift card to good use!! Enjoy… 🙂
LOVE…LOVE this guest room! Would you mind sharing the colors of quilted shams and the beautiful throw! Thank you!
I love the artwork above the bed. Could you please share a link or tell me where you purchased it?
Thank you so much! Unfortunately, they came from an antique shop, so likely one-of-a-kind. I’m always on the lookout to find something similar to link, but so far no luck.
