French Country Christmas Tree Decorations and Other Holiday Decor
In this post: Here are 20 beautiful ideas for decorating your holiday home in French Country style, using Christmas tree decorations and other holiday decor.⇒
I’m not really sure there’s such a thing as a French Country Christmas tree.
But that doesn’t mean I’m going to avoid writing all about them.
Much like most decor, defining a tree and related holiday decor as ‘French in style’ is kind of in the eye of the beholder.
Yes, there are certain things that are unequivocally French when it comes to the home, like Louis XIV chairs for instance. But for much else, it’s a lot less specific and falls under the “you know it when you see it” category.
In part, the look can be determined by color, with romantic pale colors, whites and neutrals, and metallics like gold and copper leading the way. Vintage elements also help define the look with distressed ornaments, chippy candlesticks and antique items lending authenticity to the style.
There are also signature motifs that read distinctly French to my eye, including soft pale flowers, pearl garlands, anything fleur de lis, and crowns and cherubs. And my personal fave is using vintage tea cups as ornaments.
French-inspired Christmas Tree Decorations
Here are 10 ways to add French style to your Christmas tree:
- Elegant Ribbon:
- Use satin or velvet ribbons in soft, muted tones like ivory, gold, or pastel colors.
- Drape the ribbon vertically from the top to bottom for a classic French look.
- Vintage Ornaments:
- Incorporate antique or vintage-inspired ornaments with intricate details.
- Opt for ornaments in shades of gold, silver, and champagne for a touch of French sophistication.
- Fleur-de-lis Accents:
- Integrate fleur-de-lis ornaments or accents to bring in a distinct French symbol.
- Look for fleur-de-lis embellished ribbon or ornaments for a subtle yet stylish touch.
- Lavish Bows:
- Tie large, luxurious bows with wide satin or silk ribbons and place them strategically on the tree.
- Choose bows in coordinating colors to add a regal and refined touch.
- Candles as Ornaments:
- Hang small, flameless candles as ornaments to evoke a French country ambiance.
- Place them sporadically to create a warm and inviting glow on the tree.
- Lace and Fabric Elements:
- Wrap lace or sheer fabric around the tree to add a delicate and romantic French flair.
- Consider using fabric with subtle patterns or textures for added interest.
- Monogrammed Ornaments:
- Personalize the tree with monogrammed ornaments featuring initials or French-inspired words.
- Select ornaments with calligraphy or elegant lettering for a touch of sophistication.
- French-inspired Miniatures:
- Incorporate miniature Eiffel Towers, French chateaus, or other iconic symbols as tree decorations.
- These small details can add charm and a whimsical French touch.
- Toile Tree Skirt:
- Choose a tree skirt featuring traditional French toile patterns.
- Opt for soft, neutral colors to complement the overall aesthetic of the tree.
- Crystal and Beaded Decorations:
- Hang crystal or beaded garlands for a touch of glamour and sparkle.
- Select ornaments with reflective surfaces to catch and reflect the light beautifully.

Thank you, Deborah, for the kind words and sweet wishes!
Friend, I have realized (though have always consciously known) through loss of my parents also, that nothing stays the same. the grief rolls in like the waves at unexpected times. I have comfort knowing I’ll see them again, but still I found sadness when Decorating my tree this year seeing ornaments given to me by my dad and mom and remembering sweet times because Christmas was always special. BUT, I am thankful for good memories and I will take those and with me for the rest of my days. Life keeps rolling along. Hugs to you and Merry Christmas.
What lovely words! Thank you!!
I am so sorry for your loss. It’s so hard to lose a parent anytime but around the holidays I think it’s harder. Take the time to heal and grieve your loss. Prayers for you and your family.

Thank you for reminding me that sometimes holidays occur during significant loss and cannot be carried out in creative, excited fashion. Honoring our situation and the memories of someone we have loved and now grieve becomes the goal and the challenge. Your post is lovely and does great honor to your Mother. I am reminded that “for everything there is a season”. Please accept my condolences and my wish for a peaceful holiday.
What a lovely comment! Thank you so much… ?
I am sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. My mom passed in 2010 after a long Alzheimer’s journey. Losing them is so hard, but already “losing” them while they are still physically with us is also painful. Hope they can find a cure for dementia/Alzheimer’s in the near future. I hope you can find some joy this holiday season even among the sadness.
Thank you, Joanie, and I’m so sorry you went through the same thing. It’s a terrible disease, indeed.
Oh Lory – I’m so sorry! Sending lots of love your way my friend! ?
Thank you so much, Barbara!
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your mother. It is an especially tough time of year to lose a family member. Next year, dedicate that bronze tree of your dreams to your Mom! I’ll look forward to seeing it.
I love that idea, Teddee! Thank you for your kind words… 🙂
So sorry to hear about your dear Mom. I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers!

Truly, truly sorry for your loss.
Thank you, Susan!
Thanks for sharing my holiday decor, Lory! Such beautiful inspiration you have gathered here!!
I’m so sorry for your loss. Moms leave a big hole behind…big hugs and lots of prayers going your way!
My deepest sympathies at your loss. I, too, have had both parents die in the past few years. Just remember that after the grief diminishes, the good memories will hold you in good stead. This post is simply beautiful and I plan to sit on the couch with my iPad and spend some time browsing through these wonderful photos.
So sorry for your loss. My Mom, too, had dementia. It’s hard to lose them a little at a time. But it is so final when they pass.
Please be good to yourself while you work your way through the mourning process. You were wise to wait to do the special bronze tree. There will be other Christmases.
Thank you so much for your very sweet comment!
Oh Lory
I am so sad to hear of your mum’s passing. I lost my dad almost 6 months ago now. This is my 15th Christmas without her and and I feel like my last physical link to mum has also gone. I can’t imagine the pain you are experiencing.
The grief will come in waves so be kind to yourself. We will all still be here when you are ready. Your creative spark will return. I’m the meantime sit with your grief and do what you do.
I’ll be praying you’ll know a sense of peace and know God’s loving arms around you.
Faye (Australia) xx
Thank you so much for your very sweet comment Faye, and for your kind prayers. I’m sorry for your loss as well.
Hi Lory, Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your dear mom. Losing a beloved family member is never easy! May God grant you a spirit of peace and comfort you at this time, even as you give of your time and talent and inspire us to share in the love and beauty that is Christmas! I lost my loving husband, at age 57, to Lung Cancer in March 2021, and was unsure as to what I should do at this Christmas time … if anything. Then I thought that I would do it for my mom (who now lives with me and, at 87, is showing early signs of Dementia) and as a tribute to my husband. We love French decor! So I’m happy that I came upon your post. Thank you so much! Paula Des Ormeaux, Trinidad
Paula, thank you much for your very kind words! I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, as well. Wishing you only good things going forward. 🙂
