  2. Friend, I have realized (though have always consciously known) through loss of my parents also, that nothing stays the same. the grief rolls in like the waves at unexpected times. I have comfort knowing I’ll see them again, but still I found sadness when Decorating my tree this year seeing ornaments given to me by my dad and mom and remembering sweet times because Christmas was always special. BUT, I am thankful for good memories and I will take those and with me for the rest of my days. Life keeps rolling along. Hugs to you and Merry Christmas.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. It’s so hard to lose a parent anytime but around the holidays I think it’s harder. Take the time to heal and grieve your loss. Prayers for you and your family.

  9. I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is difficult – whether it is expected or not. I am looking forward to seeing your concept for the pretty bronze Christmas tree next year – or the year after that. Whatever it takes.

Thank you for reminding me that sometimes holidays occur during significant loss and cannot be carried out in creative, excited fashion. Honoring our situation and the memories of someone we have loved and now grieve becomes the goal and the challenge. Your post is lovely and does great honor to your Mother. I am reminded that “for everything there is a season”. Please accept my condolences and my wish for a peaceful holiday.

I am sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. My mom passed in 2010 after a long Alzheimer’s journey. Losing them is so hard, but already “losing” them while they are still physically with us is also painful. Hope they can find a cure for dementia/Alzheimer’s in the near future. I hope you can find some joy this holiday season even among the sadness.

  18. My deepest sympathies at your loss. I, too, have had both parents die in the past few years. Just remember that after the grief diminishes, the good memories will hold you in good stead. This post is simply beautiful and I plan to sit on the couch with my iPad and spend some time browsing through these wonderful photos.

  19. So sorry for your loss. My Mom, too, had dementia. It’s hard to lose them a little at a time. But it is so final when they pass.

Please be good to yourself while you work your way through the mourning process. You were wise to wait to do the special bronze tree. There will be other Christmases.

    Oh Lory
I am so sad to hear of your mum’s passing. I lost my dad almost 6 months ago now. This is my 15th Christmas without her and and I feel like my last physical link to mum has also gone. I can’t imagine the pain you are experiencing.
The grief will come in waves so be kind to yourself. We will all still be here when you are ready. Your creative spark will return. I’m the meantime sit with your grief and do what you do.
I’ll be praying you’ll know a sense of peace and know God’s loving arms around you.

Hi Lory, Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your dear mom. Losing a beloved family member is never easy! May God grant you a spirit of peace and comfort you at this time, even as you give of your time and talent and inspire us to share in the love and beauty that is Christmas! I lost my loving husband, at age 57, to Lung Cancer in March 2021, and was unsure as to what I should do at this Christmas time … if anything. Then I thought that I would do it for my mom (who now lives with me and, at 87, is showing early signs of Dementia) and as a tribute to my husband. We love French decor! So I’m happy that I came upon your post. Thank you so much! Paula Des Ormeaux, Trinidad

    1. Paula, thank you much for your very kind words! I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, as well. Wishing you only good things going forward. 🙂
