The Ultimate Guide to Buying French Country Furniture
In this post: Do you love decorating with French inspired style? You’ll love this ultimate shopping guide for buying French Country furniture.⇒
I remember a time when shopping for furniture took months.
It meant going to the showrooms which were often few and far between, scouring the inventory in a multi-level shop, waiting interminably for someone to help you and then leaving with swatches to take home and see how they looked.
It’s incredible to me how different it is now. Perhaps it’s years of experience, or the fact that furniture purchases are often far less expensive and hence not required to last forever, but I can easily shop for an item and buy it in 15 minutes!
Not that I always do. In fact, online shopping is one of my favorite pastimes and I can spend hours immersed in it.
What I love most is that, even in a limited amount of time, you come away with a complete understanding of what all the available options are. In the past, instead, a full day of shopping might yield only a few applicable selections. It could take weeks to cover all the stores that had the possibility of offering what you’re looking for.
Not so anymore. I’m a big proponent of being thorough, yet most of my searches take no more than a few hours or a day, maximum.
Throw a good shopping guide into the equation and it can be cut down to an hour.
And that’s exactly what I hope to be providing for you.
This comprehensive shopping guide covers 10 different categories of French inspired furniture. Most are new reproductions, although I do sometimes include some antiques in the mix. I try to pick items that not only fit my aesthetic but also most are reasonably well priced.
They span the gamut from French Country to farmhouse, to cottage and coastal. Some can even work well in a more modern home. Most are neutral and can work with any palette and others come in a range of colors.
And while it may take some time to work your way through all the options, I can pretty well guarantee it won’t take you months!

Wow! Such great information and ideas! I’m still on a
Quest for comfortable bar stools that will lend with my chairs from France. It’s hard to buy a chair on line because it may not be comfortable. I love your dining room!
I love our bar stools and they are super comfortable. They don’t have the exact ones anymore, but there are several on this page that would go great with French chairs and I know the quality is awesome: https://rstyle.me/+q58Tea8TgbWQCuTOV52K3w
Amazing ! Love your posts, so inspiring. The first module you sent had a pair of Blue Vases on
the mantle. Would you share the source for buying those? So Beautiful!
Hi Judith,
Yes, happy to. I did receive your emails and answered this twice, but apparently you didn’t get my replies. Here is the reply I sent:
First of all, welcome! If you love blue and white, you’re going to love next Tuesday’s post… 🙂
Here are 2 links to vases that are almost identical to the ones on the mantel:

Hope that helps! (I’m older too… ;-)).

Beautiful selections. I am not an internet shopper especially for things with a seat. I have short legs and most sofas today lean back and the seats are too deep.
I’m disappointed that more than half of the links you provided either don’t lead you to the piece pictured or a good majority of the pieces are discontinued, out of stock or the piece cannot be found.
I’m sorry to hear that Gerianne. It’s frustrating to me too, that the stores change their links so frequently. I update links every single week, but I can only do one category per week. Was there a particular category you are interested in? I can put my focus there next. In the mean time, I just updated my entire Amazon shop so you can try that here: https://www.amazon.com/shop/designthusiasm
