In this post: If you loved our French Country home office but need to find a desk that’s not quite so feminine, check out these pretty home office desk ideas.⇒
After reading the comments from this weekend’s posts, I decided to put this quick little shopping-guide post together.
There was lots of interest in our French Country home office, and many of you had commented that you’d love to decorate your home office in a similar way. But there was also plenty of concern that the desk shown was too feminine for your husbands and significant others to comfortably work at.
While the French curves of the desk are part of what make it so lovely, there are actually many ways you can go in a room with a similar feel.
In fact, when I decorated this room, I intentionally added the bulkier bookcase and wood file cabinets, to balance the femininity of the elegant desk. It you wanted to style a room with this kind of feel that was not so specifically feminine, all you’d have to do would be to swap out the desk for a more transitional selection, and then opt for a wall hanging that was a bit less ornate.
When we first moved into our home I was using the office on a daily basis, while hubby was working outside the home. He only used the room for some random paperwork and to pay monthly bills.
Things have since changed and he’s working from home, while I spend more time styling and photographing around the house for the blog.
So now, more often than not, the office is used by my husband. He’s a good sport about the French desk, but if I knew the room would be used like this when we moved in, I would have decorated slightly differently.
I would still have selected a pretty desk, but maybe one that was more understated with simpler lines. I’ve included a shopping guide below in this post, for those of you who are looking for something along those lines, as well.
There are several options that might still be considered French, but not in the Louis style that reads as distinctly female. I think all of these choices would work well in an office decorated like ours, but would also satisfy the goal of being more comfortable for a man.
I also had several questions about the file cabinet under our printer, so I’m including a source for that, as well.
I hope you find these selections to be helpful in creating your own work spaces!
