It’s hard for me to picture living in a temperate climate, because as much as I hate the snow and frost, I’m very much in tune with the change of seasons. With January comes a quest for the purity of white and the fresh start it signals, but as the month fades on, I find myself ready for a renewed touch of color. As we head towards Valentine’s Day my soul is seeking out the warm blush of pinks and what better place to start than with a romantic February floral?A happy little arrangement in a shapely repousse pitcher is just the pick-me-up I was looking for. I’m a passionate flower lover with very little actual botanical knowledge, so you will find I often don’t know the names of the flowers I use. I work by instinct instead, basing arrangements on color, shape, texture and flow. This gorgeous pink makes my heart skip a beat. I have no idea what the flower is called, so please leave me a comment if you know it’s name.Of course, even I can identify hydrangeas and this whispery soft pink is oh so romantic.I like when an arrangement follows the spirit of its container, and here the curves of the pitcher suggest a flow for the floral. The bushy hydrangea dips down over the handle, while the perkier stems pop up following the line of the spout.Set against a silver backdrop, the petals take on an elegance that would look quite difference in another setting. The blush pink accents of a teacup and ruffled napkin help bring out the romantic notes in the floral. The blend of color is what speaks to me most. Many people have their signature colors and for me, pink with green is often my combo of choice.Flowers add a touch of romance to any room, whether on a bureau, next to the sink or as a table centerpiece.I’m a little shaky on this little guy, too… maybe a spider mum? Or a variety of dahlia? Help me out, readers. There may be a blanket of snow outside my window, but in my house, it’s all romance and flowers!
