1.) SUMMER WARDROBE FAVORITES: I just ordered this so cute chambray shirt, these are my all-time favorite summer capri leggings that I wear almost every day, and I love this Shade & Shore straw tote that will hold literally everything. This crisp striped dress with a tie waist detail looks cool and comfy, and it’s on sale! Talbot’s is offering 30% off your entire purchase. (No discount code needed. Today is the last day.) Last but not least, here are my go-to sandals, that are on my feet all summer.
2.) FAVORITE QUOTE: “The power of finding beauty in the humblest things makes home happy, and life lovely.” ~Louisa May Alcott
3.) WHAT I’M WATCHING NOW: I loved The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix, and even though it’s a bit slow, I liked Operation Mincemeat, on Netflix as well. Anytime Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen are in the same movie, it’s definitely worth the watch! I also enjoyed Benjamin Franklin, a film by Ken Burns. It’s available to stream on PBS Documentaries, an Amazon add-on channel. I didn’t know much about him, so I found it very interesting. He was quite a character!
4.) WHO TO FOLLOW ON INSTAGRAM:
The Accidental Farmgirl. She makes the most amazing wreaths…and sometimes she shares a reel that shows how she makes them. Her feed is full of inspiration and ideas.
Carey Johnson. Her style is charming and pretty, and she shares her Michigan home and garden.
Gardeners Cottage Edinburgh. Rachel shares her family garden on 1/3 acre in Edinburgh, Scotland. She features roses, a kitchen garden, veggies, dahlias, and more.
5.) RANDOM COOL THINGS: this easy and entertaining party theme, these tips + tricks for arranging peonies, this very classic bathtub hack, this yummy summer salad recipe, and this home made from shipping containers.
6.) EASY SUMMER MEALS: summer is the time for easy meals that don’t take much time. Two of my favorites are my ham & swiss sliders, and lemon chicken. Both are geared for two people, but you can always double the recipe if need be.
7.) The next edition of our Evolution series is coming up on June 5th, and we’re featuring our kitchens. There are a few kitchen updates I’ve wanted to do since we moved in, and this was the perfect opportunity to take care of them. So stay tuned…and subscribe to OSP so you don’t miss a thing. CLICK HERE!
8.) If you need a new grill, summer is the perfect time to buy one, and possibly on sale too. This is our grill, and we love it. Like everything else, it’s gone up a bit in price, but it’s a good size, and very dependable.
9.) I recently added a page to my blog called “Start Here.” It’s an introduction to OSP, and I share how I became a blogger, and some details about my life. There are links throughout the page that lead you to other places on my website, so feel free to explore. It includes all new pictures, and an introduction to our new puppy, Millie. See more HERE!
10.) May is winding down, and June is around the corner. Enjoy these wonderful late spring days!

1). Happy Summer! I love Memorial Day because it is not only a time to remember those who sacrificed for our country but it is also the unofficial beginning of summer! To help you, you might like to read 9 Things To Do For Summer, a fun guide to little things you can do in your home to get into the summery spirit. And here’s a post about Summer Tablescapes and Entertaining.
I also wrote a post called May’s Musings and Decorating Ideas. It has lots of “behind the scenes” things going on at the Tanglewood House like our duck and wallpaper and some decorating ideas too. This post seemed to be a big hit! I’ll continue my Musings series every month.
*There are so many great Memorial Day sales going on! Make sure to check out all the links below!
2. Readers’ Favorite Finds last week: these beautiful black outdoor rocking chairs, a trio of sweet fern plants in pots, this handsome chair, these lifelike poppies, these coordinating book bundles, these pretty lidded pots, and these fresh-looking curtains (see the other color).
3. Bobby and I just got back from a trip to Asheville. I really love this busy, eclectic small city. We stayed at The Grove Park Inn. What an amazing hotel and history! One thing we always do the first day we get to our destination is to take the trolly tour of the area. We just love getting an overview of a city and its history. This is the second time we have visited Asheville and we loved the trolly tour just as much as the first time. If you go to Asheville the Biltmore tour is also a must!
4. It’s so fun to look at designers’ homes. One of my favorite designers is Carolyne (said Caroline) Roehm. Here’s a look at her Charleston Home. I love her sense of color and beauty. And here’s a very informative video showing how Bunny Williams makes her bed. Bunny is another of my favorite designers.

9. Need easy recipes for Memorial Day? We love burgers, how about you? Here’s how we make our burgers… for every pound of ground beef we add 1 packet of Lipton’s Onion Soup and 1/4 cup of water. Mix until just combined, make patties, and grill. Answers to #5: Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. On May 30th, 1868, after the Civil War, the Grand Army of the Republic placed flowers on the graves of the Union and the Confederate soldiers who were laid to rest in Arlington Cemetary.
At 3:00 pm on Memorial Day, all Americans are required to pause and remember and honor the fallen. This law was passed by Congress in 2000, but most people don’t know about this law. But now we know!
