Great Affordable Thanksgiving Outfits Using Fall Accent Colors
In this post: Create great affordable fall and Thanksgiving outfits by adding autumn accent colors to your fall capsule wardrobe.⇒
Not all fashion capsules are neutral and colorless.
It may seem counter to the concept of a capsule, in which a limited number of items can be mixed and matched to form a variety of different looks, to include a range of colors. But in fact, if done carefully, it can be done quite successfully.
If you are one of those people who can’t bear to omit color from your wardrobe, this capsule is for you. Or if you simply want to find affordable autumnal outfits for fall, in general, and Thanksgiving, in particular, keep reading.
Essentially, the key to building a versatile but affordable fall wardrobe is twofold. First, select a range colors that pair well together. You don’t have to include every color in the rainbow. Find colors that hail from the same side of the color wheel and stick with them. Keep them similar in weight and intensity, so they appear as tasteful as a neutral palette.
In this case, I opted for camels, rusts and browns. They’re all of mid-range intensity, so they’re not too bright but they still retain clear color, and they’re not exceptionally clean, nor particularly dirty. (For instance bright orange would be a clean color, whereas pumpkin or cinnamon are a bit “dirtier”, without appearing muddy.)
The second key to creating an affordable capsule is to shop smart and find quality pieces at attainable prices. Like my original fall capsule sent earlier in the season, the pieces in this collection were carefully curated with style in mind and provide the perfect mix of trendy with classic. The pieces are all from Walmart and benefit from their everyday low prices, so that you can celebrate life while feeling great about your style.
Below you will find 10 styled outfits that can take you through fall and are perfect for Thanksgiving, depending on the level of formality in your holiday. You’ll find casual looks that scream ‘turkey and football’, and more elegant ensembles for those who enjoy a more sophisticated dinner. These outfits are appropriate for work and play, as well, or pretty much for any given Tuesday. Mix, match and enjoy!

Outfit Options
One of the hottest trends this fall is plaid and preppy. This first outfit takes advantage of that concept, along with the ever-so-popular camel color that’s feeling very fresh this year. Mixed with denim, black and white it would read as very neutral, but coupled with a spice-toned plaid you have the essence of a fall palette.
If a short skirt is not your thing, get the same feeling with a plaid pant, scarf or blazer. (See one below, in the next outfit.)
This casual weekend look pairs a plaid blazer with a wide leg jean, the latest shape in denim. The tailored jacket gives nice definition to the fuller pant and the browns in the plaid are mirrored in the lug sole boot. Pop on a beanie and you’re looking chic.
For a dressier look without the fuss, you can’t beat the comfort of knitwear. Coordinate a lightweight button-down collared sweater with a midi skirt in the same cinnamon tone. Finish with camel accessories and an animal print scarf.
For an event that’s equal parts informal and stylish, try a patch pocket jean skirt with a pumpkin sweater. An aubergine western bootie, sherpa handbag and felt hat round out the package.
Another nod to the preppy trend, this argyle dress in shades of brown is perfect for fall. Use accessories in analogous tones to bring out the mix in the pattern – a chestnut faux leather jacket, a pumpkin tote, camel Chelsea boots and a bone bucket hat.
If relaxed is your mantra, these pieces will speak your language, from the light wash jeans and comfy turtleneck to the cozy wool shirt-jacket. Toss in sherpa accents like the baseball cap, bucket bag and lined hiking boots.
This sleeveless knit mini dress is so very versatile, and can be worn as a tunic or as a dress on its own. The pointelle cardigan makes an excellent coverup, while the over-the-knee boots help take the look up a notch. A ladylike handbag and of-the-moment jewelry adds another note of polish.
Here’s a super easy look that can be dressed up or down. The cuff jean and slim high neck underpinning lay the foundation, while the brick boot laces and handbag bring out the rich tone of the turtleneck. Top it off with a beige jacket, or for more elegance, try the tailored plaid blazer.
Another classic weekend outfit, the boot cut jeans and denim shacket are given an autumnal edge with brown scarf and oxblood shoulder bag. Lighten the look with a chamois V-neck and suede boots.
Perhaps the most formal look in the bunch is this oatmeal knit dress and jacket set, with cinnamon slouch boots and elegant tote bag. The icing on the cake is the most popular piece from our early fall capsule – the caramel colored sherpa jacket.
You’ll notice all the tones from each of these outfits fall into the range of colors from camel to brown, with some warmer versions like pumpkin and rust. They mix and match well and can be paired in various ways, making them perfect for a capsule, despite the fact that they’re not technically neutral.
