Christmas Table Setting: Classic and Elegant Christmas Table Decorations

chic holiday table decor

In this post: Want to set a special Christmas table that’s classic and elegant but not overly ornate? These chic Christmas table decorations will do just that.⇒

classic Christmas table decorations

Did you know I never got a set of china when I got married?

Yep. True story.  We never even had a registry.  I was thinking about this the other day and how ironic it is that I collect tableware. By now I have several sets of china, mostly inherited from family members, but some collected in bits and pieces which I love to mix and match with more casual pieces.

The truth is, I don’t really like to set my tables with full sets of china. In fact, there are so many other ways to create an elegant table for a special occasion.

So if you’re feeling bad that you don’t have formal china or don’t really love the set that you have, today I’m going to share with you other ways to create a very special Christmas table setting.

elegant Christmas table decorations

For starters I love to mix patterns for a complex layered yet relaxed feel. Plaids are always great for the holidays and work perfectly with the classic colors of the season.

I also enjoy using vintage pieces like the garden urn that serves up the regal red roses. Next I toss in some Yuletide flavor with glittered pine cones and other snippets from the winter landscape.

But the real star of this table comes in the form of gorgeous pewter Christmas table decorations. They were provided by Vagabond House, a company I’ve worked with several times before, as their pieces are both absolutely stunning, as well as high quality and beautifully made.

Today I’m joining with my Styled + Set gang to bring you our annual Christmas entertaining blog hop. You’ll find tablescapes and other entertaining ideas, all styled for the holiday season, so be sure to check out my friends’ posts linked at the bottom of this one.

*This post was sponsored by Vagabond House, but all opinions and product-love are purely my own.

Much like my penchant for mixing china, I tend to mix up the collections that I choose pieces from to embellish my table. While the varied collections from Vagabond House have a distinct and individual feel, they work well blended together as they retain a similar character by virtue of the spirit of the design.

Above you can see the exquisite Medici Lunch Flatware flanking the classic-patterned plate stack, lending it a stately and majestic air. Sitting comfortably among the more winter-specific pieces, it can itself be used all year long.

Punctuating the place setting is a magnificent wine goblet from the Entwined Oak Pewter Stemware collection. The pattern comes in four sizes including white wine, red wine, bordeaux and burgundy. I selected the burgundy glass for its lovely rotund shape, suitable for my favorite wine. The pretty pewter leaves act as charming cradle for the bulbous glass.

One of the easiest ways to make a statement on a table is with fabulous napkin rings. You can place a refined embroidered napkin front and center on top of your plate stack, gathered within an exceptional piece like the Pewter Acorn & Oak Leaf Napkin Ring and it will draw the eye in. This is a great place to invest in a very special piece as the sinuous shape makes a grand display in a prominent place on the table.

salt and pepper shakers Christmas table decorations

Perhaps most emblematic of the season is the Lodge Style Collection with its Stag and Doe Salt & Pepper Set, seen above. This group works particularly well with the oak components from the Majestic Forest collection, or with other stag motif pieces you may already own.

I stayed quite simple when it came to florals for the table, using the vibrant red roses as the focal point and a pair of greenery planters in the supporting role on either side. It says Christmas unequivocally and complements the artful pewter objects with tailored style.

soup tureen Christmas table decorations

The final piece I’ll highlight is the shapely and elegant soup tureen. It would make a lovely centerpiece on the table with twin florals on either side or place it on the sideboard, for serving, next to the table.

There are many ways to dress up a table for a celebratory dinner and using luxury table decor in pewter to entertain your guests is one of the most delightful ways I can think of. A single piece might get them talking and a table full is likely to dazzle them.

And I can pretty much guarantee that no one will ask where your matched set of china is!

Wow! I love those goblets (you have such good taste!)! What kind of rim do they have – rolled or cut?

This mixture of pewter and plaid is perfect for a South Georgia plantation home. I’m pinning this this and checking out Vagabond House (maybe they will have some specials!) very nice.

Another beautiful tablescape, Lory ( pinned it, of course). I try to embellish my china as well. Years ago, all my settings were just matchy-matchy. Much more interesting now, and many learned from blogs such as yours. I love Vagabond House; have several of their acorn & leaf serving pieces as well as some reindeer pieces. They work beautifully w/ a dinnerware set I have w/ a raised reindeer bust on each rim! I also use the dinnerware for some autumn settings because the reindeer, with antlers, resembles closely enough a buck deer. Hugs!
