Awesome Decorative Items: Mother-Daughter Shopping Spree
In this post: With Mother’s Day quickly approaching, a mother-daughter shopping spree for awesome decorative items is a great way to spend a day.⇒

When my daughter was little, a girls’ day out usually involved painting ceramics or heading to the park. As she grew, she became quite a savvy shopper with a keen interest for fashion and shopping days became our thing. But it wasn’t until last year, when she got her own apartment, that shopping for home decor was added to our repertoire.
Last week I was lucky enough to receive a box of gift cards from my sponsor, Kirkland’s, and an invitation to preview their brand-spanking-new store opening in Paramus, NJ on May 6th.
This had mother-daughter shopping spree written all over it!

So I gathered a few friends and they brought their daughters, too.
What I love about this store, besides the very attainable prices, is the broad range of design styles the product can work with. From farmhouse to modern, French Country to industrial, the items in the store appeal to young and old.
Perfect for mother and daughter.
The sideboard cabinet above has sliding doors, reminiscent of trendy barn doors and sits comfortably next to a cool grey modern chair with arabesque pattern. (See resource list below.)

Beautifully merchandised displays reveal decor for seasonal occasions, from Fourth of July and Mother’s Day, to more general summer entertaining. This fabulous metal beverage tub serves up red, white and blue bottles, no doubt changed out when the next holiday approaches.

On the more feminine side, these pretty faux stems are lovely in the galvanized pitcher. Candles and other accessories are presented nearby.

In a section dedicated to kitchenware, there are whimsically labeled bowls and other decorative items suited for food prep, along with aromatic hand wash in delicate colors.
My daughter found a utensil holder with chalk-labeled compartments, perfect to corral her flatware in her tiny urban apartment.

As we’re coming into summer, there were lanterns everywhere, from wooden to metal, in all shapes and sizes.

Perhaps my absolute favorite items were these colorful mason jar lanterns, and while it’s hard to tell the size when they’re lined up next to each other, these are large lantern-size glass hurricanes and they’re totally awesome!

There’s plenty of artwork in the store, as well, and my girl was most interested in this section in particular.

But Kirkland’s is not just about decorative accessories. There’s also plenty of furniture to be found here. I love the distressed side table above in both white and natural.

Yep, not one person came home empty-handed!

Here’s a look at some of my selections, but I’ll be styling it all together in a post later this week.
You can get a sneak peek below at the direction I’m headed but I’ll be detailing it all for you with links as usual. There will also be a raffle for a $50 gift card for one lucky reader, so be sure to stop back on Thursday for the full reveal!
I’m not saying I will never paint ceramics again, but a mother-daughter shopping spree is definitely our new favorite pastime.

Love Kirkland’s! Our store in town closed several years ago. It’s still worth the 45 minute drive now to shop.
Lisa, Do you live in Lynchburg Va by any chance ?! Our Kirkland’s closed a few years ago and our closest one is in Charlottesville.
I had no idea it was such a great store since we didn’t have one near us. It was awesome!! They also have a lot online that wasn’t in store, as well as things in store that are sold out online, so be sure to check both… 🙂
What a fun day! And so sweet for you to share it with those dear to you. 🙂
Thanks, Deb! It was so fun!!
I love Kirkland’s! Your post makes me want to make a quick trip to shop!
You definitely should! I couldn’t believe their amazing prices, too… 🙂
Lory, how fun for you! Your daughter is gorgeous!
Ginger
Aww, thanks so much, Ginger!
First, loved the photo of your pretty daughter, that is sweet. There is a kirklands near here, I never think to go, but like that galvanized pitcher so might just amble over! Thanks 🙂
Thanks, Jillian! I love shopping with my sweet girl… 🙂 And yes, amble away! So much fun stuff in the store. Tomorrow’s post will show how I styled everything I bought!!
It is soo funny–when we had a Kirklands in Central Va. I shopped there all the time !! I still have items that I purchased and never knew what to do with them. Now, we no longer have a store and I love going to a town that has one. I can’t wait to see what you will do with your items. I love the yellow pitcher and lavendar color. Your daughter is beautiful and I am squite sure she loves the fact that you are so great at fashion and decor. Enjoy this beautiful day.:)
Thank you, Kathy!! Not sure I mentioned it in the post but my daughter is a designer, as well… 😉 Stay tuned for styling post because that’s going up tomorrow… 🙂 And the good news is, Kirkland’s has a great website you can order from, too!
I had no idea Kirkland’s had such great items. I will have to make the 50 minute drive to ‘town’ and check it out. Your daughter is precious and I know she had a great time shopping with you and all your great friends! You are blessed to have each other.
Thank you so much, Elizabeth! There’s no better compliment than kinds words about my kids!! And yes, I didn’t know about Kirkland’s either, because they weren’t nearby. So great to know, isn’t it?
My mother and I love shopping at Kirkland’s! The last time we were there, one of the items I purchased was that same yellow pitcher.
Oh, that’s so cool! I love how pale yellow works with so many different color combinations… 🙂
Looks like you had a wonderful time in a wonderful store. Great memories for you with your beautiful daughter.
