French Country Fridays 17: Savoring the Charm of French Inspired Decor
Welcome to French Country Fridays 17, a place to celebrate the charm of French inspired decor!
Did you ever spend time decorating a room, working on getting it just right and then at the last minute, you buy something practical that just kills the whole vibe? Well, I hope you didn’t but I did, and boy I cannot wait to tell that story.
I’ve known for a long time that practicality can never be my sole concern and if I don’t love something, no amount of functionality is going to change that. And yet, every now and then I give in and then agonize over the mistake. In this case, I acted quickly, but it’s a lesson I seem to learn over and over.
More on that soon… 🙂

Lory – As much as I love pretty things, they first need to do the job I need done. As I read your sentence: “I’ve known for a long time that practicality can never be my sole concern and if I don’t love something, no amount of functionality is going to change that.” The reverse of that sentence would be true for me. In a perfect world, I’d like to combine both, beauty and practicality, but for me, function has to come over form. This reality was driven home earlier this month when I was sending a package to Cuba, a new faucet for a sink, and my relatives there, had zero opinion about color, or outward features, they only desperately wanted functionality. Just send the faucet with extra gaskets that they can replace when the old ones wear out. Those were my only instructions. It’s so sad to have to live in a world of mere survival. I wish they could have beauty as well.
