French Country Fridays 35: Savoring the Charm of French Inspired Decor

Welcome to French Country Fridays 35, a place to celebrate the charm of French inspired decor!

Yesterday was an exhausting day! As many of you know since I’ve written about this before, my parents moved to an apartment nearby last year, but we’re still cleaning out their old house. It’s an hour away and each time we make the trek there to work on a specific part of the house, it feels overwhelming. Yesterday I went with my husband and my brother to tackle the garage. And all I can say is, never ever store anything in your garage that you wouldn’t keep outdoors!

I actually tell my husband this all the time about our own garage, because things stored in there will be subject to the elements. Maybe not direct rain or snow, but humidity and extremes in temperature for sure.

We found some priceless photos and family mementos (including my grandparents’ birth certificates showing they both celebrated their birthdays on the wrong day!), but we lost many more due to being stuck together or ruined from the damp conditions.

I always come back from these visits with a renewed desire to clean out my own house with reckless abandon and an unrelenting attitude toward tossing what doesn’t matter and protecting what does. Unlike my parents’ garage, you can park cars in mine and walk easily through, yet I still prefer things much more organized. Challenge accepted!
