French Country Fridays 5: Celebrating the Charm of French Inspired Decor
Welcome to French Country Fridays 5, a place to celebrate the charm of French inspired decor!
Well, friends, I hope it’s warmer where you are than where I am. I’m actually sitting in a Panera, borrowing their heat, lights and Internet, since we have no power at home. We had quite a storm here in the Northeast, and I’m told the power won’t be back until at least Saturday or Sunday. Not particularly happy about that, but what can you do? If you want to appreciate your home and your creature comforts, try living a few days with no power. You should have seen me try to open a can with a manual can opener last night! Good thing I had a tuna packet because the can was an epic fail.
By today the refrigerated food will be all spoiled, so it will have to be replaced. I’ve been through this before. Three times in 2 years, we lost power for 11 days each. So I’m not shopping any time soon. Will wait until we’re restored before I attempt that. For now, I’ll be a nomad and try to find warm places to sleep.
Today, I may try my luck at the Apple Store. Perhaps if no one else was able to get out, I can get help with some tech things I’ve been wanting to fix for a while. Or maybe I’ll just go to an antique mall… 😉

Lory, how awful to be without power in such seriously cold weather! My in-laws in NH got 14 inhes of snow but still have power, thankfully. Enough is enough for the Northeast now! Here’s hoping you are not without power for anything near 11 days! Best of luck.
Thanks, and gratefully, we got our power back and back in business… 🙂 I agree enough is enough. We had about 24”.
We’ve been forced into the apocalyptic darkness of night in search of shelter after ice storms a couple of times, and with those experiences under my belt I REALLY feel for you!!! Life as you know it comes to a screeching halt, and you are badgered into employing every MacGyver maneuver possible…including manual can openers, picnic cooler refrigerators, and dragging out every LED candle you own!!! Among the things I’d miss most now – besides heat and keeping food fresh, of course – would be using my electric toothbrush, my white noise machine for sleeping, WiFi, and the garage door opener!!! I really hope your power is quickly restored and losses are minimal. Most of all, though, I just wish you every comfort and safety possible.
Thank you so much, Alycia! Agree about the wifi in particular! Lol. But we fortunately got our power back!! Yay!
Oh, that beautiful mirror with the green – do you have that one for sale? The room is absolutely beautiful!
I assume you mean the one on Edith and Evelyn’s photo? If you click on the photo it will take you to her page where you can ask her directly about it. It is a beauty, isn’t it?
You definitely need a generator, my husband set us up with a diesel generator that can run our whole neighborhood if we wanted to?! What a blessing to never be without power again…you can get the smaller ones at Costco, and those will keep your fridge and freezers going, plus your heat etc. Best investment, and peace of mind EVER!!
Believe me, I’d love to. But we live in a townhouse and they are not permitted.
