Green Decor: Decorating with Pantone’s Color of the Year “Greenery”
In this post: If you love green decor, you’ll love decorating with Pantone’s color of the year. Here are some French Country options to perk up your home.⇒
Several years ago, when my kids were still relatively young, my family was on a vacation at a very uber-chic hotel. We arrived at 10pm on a Saturday night and there was a line around the block to get into the lobby bar. As we trudged past the line with our luggage and rumpled travel gear, the one thing I was immediately struck with was that everyone that was part of this young crowd was wearing essentially the same thing. It’s like a memo was sent out that this look was the trend and the commonality was so striking that I’ve never forgotten it.
Such is the nature of popular trends. But it’s up to each of us, as consumers, regardless of how well informed we are of the trends, to determine which ones will work for us and which to completely pass on. If you utterly hate a particular style or know it wouldn’t flatter you or your home, it’s relative popularity should be irrelevant to you.
That said, it can be great fun to update your home or your wardrobe in small and inexpensive ways to reflect current trends that happen to be in line with your existing tastes. As I had posted last summer (in THIS post), the projected colors for 2017 would be greens and blues, and in fact Pantone has recently anointed “greenery” as their color of the year. This is a lovely spring-like color that would work well through the coming months, so I thought it would be fun to curate some low investment green decor items for those for whom this happens to be a color that resonates with you.

This post was on the spot for me. I am, just now, tweeking our master bedroom to showcase some of my blue and white collection and our antique green painted/gold gilded furniture. Your post has encouraged me to continue on with the blues and greens.
I like the green terracotta pot and the clock. I put hunter green carpet in the living room, hallway and bedrooms almost 20 years ago so obviously I like green! I put hardwood down everywhere but the bedrooms about 3 years ago. I’d love to replace the bedroom carpet with something more neutral but that’s not going to happen this year.
I know what you mean about everyone wearing the same color. No matter where I go, shopping, dining, church, it looks like I’m at a funeral. Everyone is wearing black, with maybe a daring hint of denim blue. With all the colors in nature, you’d think people would use them. Can you tell that’s one of my pet peevishnesses? *L*
As for that green, it’s one of my favorite colors and I have never waited for some “authority”, such as Pantone, to tell me it’s the in color. I use it whenever, wherever I like it.
Yep, it’s wonderful to do things you love regardless of what the “authorities” on the subject say. I will admit, despite the fact that my home is full of light colors and lots of white, I am one of those people who you will mostly find in head to toe black! Lol… I think it’s a New York thing… 😉
