There’s something about a ladies’ luncheon that just seems synonymous with spring.
Of course, we can have lunch parties all year long, but this season of rebirth and renewal, rife with flowers blooming everywhere, is a natural setting for feminine celebrations. From bridal and baby showers to Easter and Mother’s Day, there are plenty of spring events that lend themselves perfectly to a genteel lunch.
As such, it’s the ideal time to set a posh table, brimming over with ‘pretty’.

Spring Celebrations
As I look back through my spring tables, many incorporate imagery that’s specific to Easter, but a lovely and cultivated seasonal tablescape can be quite universal, and hence more versatile for a wide variety of events.
My goal in creating this tableau was to offer table decor inspiration that can take you through the entire season.

The key concept that defines this graceful table setting is the pairing of gilded tableware with colorful spring blossoms.
At the heart of this marriage is the exquisite place setting, centered around a ruffle-edged glass charger plate with golden border, topped with an artful glass plate with hand painted 24-karat gold accents. The pattern is reminiscent of an abstract expressionist splatter of paint, at once fun and cheerful, and yet beautifully executed. The plate’s rough edges enhance the creative presentation.
These wonderful pieces are from Annieglass, purveyor of handcrafted sculptural glass dinnerware, serving pieces and accessories, designed by the exceptionally talented Ann Morhauser.

While the gilding is reflected elsewhere on the table, I chose to frame the plate stack with flatware in silver instead. The vintage silver is a family heirloom, and the mixed metals broadcast a note of complexity in styling.
In fact the silver helps to underscore the importance and beauty of the dishes, by serving as a distinguishing boundary breaking up a would-be sea of gold.

The other definitive component that gives the tablescape its identity is the twin bouquets of spring flowers, flanking the cake plate centerpiece.
Offering the only real color present on the table, the mix of blooms is distinctive in the color mix that was chosen. Pale pink tulips and magenta hyacinth are paired often enough, but the infusion of orange tulips brings a jolt of novelty to the table. Pussy willow branches cap off the floral display.

A harmonized array of brass candlesticks adds just the right note of warmth to play off the gilded dinnerware. Varied in height and comprising a mixing old and new, they offer a touch of formality in the most relaxed way.

Another charming object from the Annieglass collection is the handkerchief votive that bears the most delightfully shaped curves. Whether on the dining table, on a sideboard or as a living room accent, these sweet little pieces release the loveliest bit of light.

Rounding out the table decorations for this spring celebration, I used a few classic pieces that would offer quiet gentility, allowing the tableware stars to do the heavy lifting. Those dependable deliverers of elegance include the cut crystal goblets with glen plaid pattern, natural linen napkins, a pure white ruffled tablecloth and a refined cake plate serving up pastries and primrose.
If you have something special to celebrate this spring, or you just want to regale the season for its own sake, I hope you find inspiration from these table decor ideas for a decidedly feminine and positively pretty tablescape, appropriate for any spring celebrations that are on your horizon.

More Tips for Styling a Spring Table with Relaxed Elegance
- Start with a Soft, Neutral Base
A laundered linen tablecloth or simple runner in ivory, taupe, or pale blush sets a quiet foundation without stealing the show. - Layer with Understated Elegance
Use classic white or cream plates and layer with just one accent salad plate in a soft spring hue or subtle floral. - Mix in Natural Textures
Add warmth and an organic feel with woven chargers, rattan placemats, or wooden serving pieces that keep the table grounded. - Choose a Fresh, Light Color Palette
Think soft greens, buttery yellows, and muted pinks – tones that whisper spring without shouting. - Incorporate Simple Blooms
Skip the tightly structured arrangements and tuck seasonal flowers loosely into small vases or bud jars for a more effortless charm. - Keep Glassware Delicate and Classic
Crystal or softly tinted goblets add grace without being flashy – think barely-there pink or etched glass details. - Use Napkins as a Style Moment
A neatly folded linen napkin or a casual knot tied with a velvet ribbon can feel chic but still relaxed. - Accent with Subtle Seasonal Touches
Think tiny nests, pastel eggs, or a single spring bloom at each place setting – sweet, but never overdone. - Let Candlelight Work Its Magic
Tapered candles in pale colors elevate the mood instantly – just keep holders simple and refined. - Avoid Overcrowding the Table
Leave space between decor elements so the table feels airy and welcoming, not cluttered or overly styled. - Use Pieces You Truly Love
Vintage dishes, heirloom flatware, or flea market finds bring personality and meaning to the table, even if they don’t match perfectly. - Add One Unexpected Detail
Whether it’s a hand-painted place card, a decorative bird figurine, or an antique compote filled with fruit, one unique touch keeps it interesting.
