ByLory Bernstein February 11February 11

In this post: Are you aching to see hints of spring in your home? Awaken your winter home with these inspiring transitional spring decor ideas.⇒

fresh spring flowers

I love the placid look of all white decor in winter.

For about a month.

No sooner does January end, though, and I’m already looking to add a bit of color back into my home. A brief entanglement with Valentine’s decor seems to awaken my senses, and quickly thereafter, I’m scouring the garden center for hyacinths.

I will admit, I’ve always been an early adopter when it comes to spring fever. But with snow still on the ground, it’s simply too early for eggs and bunnies. Still, my spring-loving soul is unabashedly ready to start a subtle transition into the coming season of renewal. This is the time to bring in hints of nature and other signs of what is to come. Let’s look at simple ways to update your home in anticipation of the coming spring.

hints of spring in the family room

Use Colors from the Garden

One of the easiest ways to ease into spring decor is by drawing inspiration from the garden, particularly with soft, natural greens. Swap out heavy, wintery textiles for pillows, throws, or even vases in fresh shades of sage, moss, or olive. A simple bowl of green apples, a cluster of eucalyptus stems, or a ceramic lamp in a muted leafy hue can instantly breathe new life into a space. These subtle touches bring the vibrancy of nature indoors without feeling overly seasonal, creating a seamless transition from winter’s coziness to spring’s awakening.

block printed pillow

Toss in Block Printed Pillows

Block printed pillows are everywhere these days, gracing us with their soft, organic feel. The hand-stamped patterns, often featuring delicate florals, leafy vines, or simple geometric motifs, bring an effortless charm that feels both artisanal and timeless. Opt for light, airy fabrics like linen or cotton in fresh, nature-inspired hues—soft greens, gentle blues, or warm neutrals—to subtly brighten your space. These pillows add just the right amount of pattern and texture, evoking the beauty of spring without overwhelming the room, making them a perfect transitional accent as the season begins to change.

woven rattan tray with spring flowers

Use Natural Woven Accents

Decor accents made from natural woven materials provide a subtle yet effective way to invite spring into your home. A rattan tray on the coffee table, a set of wicker baskets for extra throws, or a seagrass planter for greenery instantly adds warmth and texture while keeping the look light and airy. These organic materials have a carefree, sun-kissed feel that gently lifts a space out of its winter slumber. Whether it’s a simple woven placemat or a statement pendant light, these accents bring in a natural, breathable quality that perfectly echoes the fresh energy of the season.

white linen drapery panels

Lighten the Drapery Panels

Swapping out heavy drapery for breezy, lightweight panels is a simple way to usher in the freshness of spring. Select airy fabrics like white linen or sheer cotton that allow natural light to filter through, instantly brightening the space and giving it a soft, ethereal feel. This small change makes a big impact, creating a sense of openness and movement that feels perfectly in tune with the changing season. Whether you choose crisp white, a soft neutral, or even a barely-there pastel, lighter drapery helps transition your home from winter’s cocoon into spring’s gentle embrace.

organic vases with spring flowers

Give a Nod to Spring Bulbs

Spring bulbs are one of the first signs of the season’s arrival, but if it’s too early for them to bloom outdoors, faux flowers can beautifully bridge the gap. High-quality faux lilies of the valley, daffodils, or tulips can add a delicate, fresh touch without feeling artificial. Tuck a small bundle into a simple vase, weave them into a centerpiece, or place a sprig on a bedside table for a simple hint of spring. Mix them in with cut fresh flowers and no one will be able to tell!

Bring in Fresh Cut Flowers

While your garden may not be quite ready, you can usually find early spring flowers at the flower market or garden center. Try a crisply elegant green and white arrangement to keep things seasonal yet sophisticated. A bouquet of white tulips and fragrant hyacinths, paired with lush greenery like eucalyptus or ruscus, creates a look that’s both refreshing and timeless. The soft white petals feel light and airy, while the intoxicating scent of hyacinths fills your home with the unmistakable essence of spring. Placed in a simple glass vase or a rustic ceramic pitcher, this arrangement adds just the right amount of seasonal charm without feeling overly fussy.

Include Organic Bits from Nature

While it may be too soon for Easter-themed decor, you can still give a subtle nod to nature by incorporating organic elements like nests, twigs, and even a charming bird figurine or two. A small grapevine nest tucked onto a shelf, a bundle of branches arranged in a vase, or a delicate wooden or ceramic bird can evoke the feeling of early spring without rushing the season. These natural touches add warmth and texture, bringing the outdoor in, and setting the stage for the full bloom of spring ahead.

white cherry blossoms in a wood urn

Cluster Spring Branches in an Urn

Another lovely way to welcome spring is by clustering tall branches in a stately urn, creating a striking display that feels organic and fresh. White cherry blossoms, dogwood stems, and magnolia branches add height and drama while maintaining a soft, natural elegance. Placed in a rustic wooden urn, this arrangement brings a sculptural quality to a room, making it a perfect focal point for an entryway, dining table, or mantel. The mix of delicate blooms and sturdy branches embodies the early days of spring—still understated, yet full of promise and beauty.

More Tips for Transitioning Into Spring Decor

  • Swap Out Throw Blankets – Trade heavy, knitted throws for lightweight cotton or linen in soft pastels or fresh neutrals to lighten up your space. Drape them casually over sofas or beds for an effortless, breezy feel.
  • Incorporate Botanical Art – Swap wintery artwork for botanical prints featuring florals, ferns, or delicate greenery. Vintage-inspired or watercolor styles add a soft, organic touch to walls and shelves.
  • Use Soft Pastel Accents – Introduce gentle hues like blush, sky blue, or buttery yellow in small doses through pillows, vases, or candles. These shades can subtly brighten your decor.
  • Refresh Table Linens – Opt for light, textured linens in light colors or floral prints for your dining table. A crisp white or softly patterned table runner instantly makes a space feel fresh and inviting.
  • Add a Decorative Birdcage – A vintage-style birdcage, left empty or filled with moss and candles, brings a touch of spring charm. Place it on a console table or use it as a centerpiece for a whimsical nod to nature.
  • Display Potted Herbs – Fresh basil, rosemary, or thyme in simple clay pots add greenery and a light fragrance to your kitchen. They bring both beauty and function, perfect for a fresh spring refresh.
  • Introduce Soft Candlelight – Swap out deep, spicy winter scents for fresh florals or citrusy notes. Place candles in glass hurricanes or lanterns for a light, glowy ambiance that feels airy and seasonal.
  • Layer in Textured Ceramics – Matte, earth-toned pottery or speckled ceramic vases add a handmade, organic feel. Fill them with simple greenery or let them stand alone as sculptural elements.
  • Update Your Doormat – A fresh, woven or coir doormat with a simple floral or nature-inspired design is an easy way to welcome spring right at your doorstep.
  • Add Light Rattan Furniture – Replace heavier furniture pieces with light rattan or wicker options, like a chair or side table. These materials evoke a breezy, relaxed vibe and work well with any spring decor theme.
  • Create a Spring-Inspired Tray – Assemble a tray with spring-inspired elements like fresh greenery, white candles, and small floral accents. It’s an easy way to bring a seasonal touch to coffee tables or consoles.
  • Incorporate Watercolor Accents – Watercolor art, whether in paintings or printed textiles, adds a soft, fluid quality to your decor. Choose pieces with pastel or floral hues to create a calm and inviting atmosphere.
