Grape Harvest Decor: Transitioning Seasons with an Early Fall Tablescape

Four seasons are not enough for me.

Perhaps it’s because of my background in the fashion industry, where we designed a separate line for 10 deliveries each year, but I don’t see fall as one big season. For me, September has rich reds, October moves into oranges and November leans brown.

I thrive on the transitions and enjoy the subtle shifts the calendar brings.

Grape Harvest Decor

For this reason, I love to decorate in late summer with thoughts of the coming harvest and this grape harvest tablescape was inspired by exactly that.

The palette derives from summer flowers and greenery but adds a little deepness with a richer crimson red.

The overall look is still quite light, as we are in the heat of summer, yet where I use a bare table for most of the summer, I now add a tablecloth in a draped white ruffled linen. It feels a little more dressed than my casual summer tables, but the base of white keeps it from getting too dark.

My table decor is often driven by a single motif and in this case that vision came from these stunning grape wine glasses. They are incredibly beautiful, yet fit perfectly with the relaxed vibe of end of summer.

In keeping with the silver tone of the pewter in the glasses, I decided to focus my table on mostly silver and white. My plate stack begins with an ornate pewter charger, topped by a simple white dinner plate. Next up are the salad plates adorned with market vegetables, the perfect visual to go with this concept.

Classic white tapers are served up in vintage silver candelabras and the flatware is also a vintage silver pattern.

For napkins I used my white embroidered linens with just a hint of green via the bottom layer, peeking out. I’ve been collecting antique silver napkin rings for the past few months, and I debuted my collection here, although it’s not complete. The final touch was to tuck in a stalk of greenery, pulled from the centerpiece.

And speaking of the centerpiece, this was the most fun part of styling the table setting. The flowers borrowed colors right from the salad plates and were gathered in a lovely Apple Glass Pitcher from Vagabond House. The pitcher rests on their Artichoke Stoneware Serving Tray, which is garnished with the overflow of coordinating florals.

The sun-drenched tableau offers a charming stage from which to appreciate the grape harvest decor that is the essence of this seasonal tablescape. 

We may only have four seasons, but we still have 12 months, and that leaves ample room for new decor to reflect the nuances!
