  1. This made me smile. I always loved growing things in pots, but since I’ve had a house with a yard (for 15 years), I resent every minute of weed-pulling and maintenance. I planted flowers–daffodils that are blooming like crazy right now, roses that are leafing out, literally hundreds of tulips and irises–but cutting them to bring inside just brings in a shocking number of bugs.
My grandma had an enormous garden that she worked in most of the day every day, and she loved every minute of it. I loved helping her. But in the end, when it comes to my own garden, I’d rather be doing something else, reading economics, for example. I always romanticized about having a garden, growing my own vegetables and flowers, etc. It’s so good for mental and physical health. Yet, in reality I find it torture. I have nothing but admiration for people who garden a lot, but I have to admit it isn’t for me. Luckily, most of what I’ve planted are perennials and on automatic pilot, but the weed invasion is a never-ending struggle.

  2. Lee Durden says:

Start your “easy” garden with perennials-Bulbs in spring; iris, roses, delphiniums, yarrow in summer, fall-mums added to your “summer” mix. Water and feed as necessary-they will come back year after year. Have Fun!

    1. Wow, thank you so much for the advice!! How I’d love to have delphiniums in my garden! Will have to look into this… 🙂
