Top Fall Decor Trends: The Best Fall Wreaths, Pumpkins, Pillows and More
In this post: Looking for fresh ideas for your fall home decor? This guide to the top fall decor trends includes fall wreaths, pumpkins, pillows and more. ⇒
It’s been years since fall decor has had a unique look!
But this year is truly distinct.
I don’t know if the difference is just obvious to me or if everyone can see this fresh approach, but there are some very clear new directions in the autumn decor I’m seeing and I find it exceptionally inspiring.
Each year I buy a few new things, but this year I’m motivated to add a whole new repertoire to my fall decor.
Let’s look at the novel trends in fall styling and at what’s available in the various categories.
Fall Decor Trends
Organics
Without a doubt the most ubiquitous trend I’m seeing this year is the use of organic materials. This coincides with general decor trends but is particularly well suited to the fall season. From rattan pumpkins and woven vases to wood chip gourds and driftwood bits, organics are everywhere and define the character of the season.
Teddy Bear Knits
There’s a new texture on the cozy scene this year and it’s fun and inviting to play with. I’m seeing nubby, wooly “teddy bear” knits used in pumpkins, pillows and more. A close relative to polar fleece or sherpa, it’s a natural for blankets and throws.
Dry Tones
Another welcome trend in my book is the prevalence of dry chalky tones. Classic fall colors are taking on a new look with an almost whitewashed spin. Picture a typical palette of orange, gold and yellow, but then tone it down with a veil of white over it, so gold becomes camel, orange becomes cinnamon and yellow becomes cornsilk or haystack. This works delightfully well with the ever-present organics and adds an air of sophistication to a palette than can often be a bit much.
Texture
While texture is present every fall, this year I’m seeing texture on steroids. Cable knits are chunkier, faux fur is fluffier, and plumes are long-haired and grassier. This trend also overlaps the organics mentioned above with the omnipresence of natural weave items.
Terracotta
In line with the quieter nature of the palette this year, I’m seeing more terracotta where I might usually see copper. Now, I would not go so far as to say copper is over, and I’ll be using plenty of it myself, but the sheen and gleam of past years seems to have been replaced by a cozier down-to-earth vibe. Terracotta vases and urns, in particular, look wonderful with the lush grasses and plumes that are popular this year.
Fall Wreaths
Dry, Chalky, Organic. The same adjectives mentioned in the trends above are repeated in the products I’m seeing in stores. Wreaths are chock full of dry textures like wheat, hay, and dried fruits. See my favorite selections below.

Fall Pumpkins
The assortment of pumpkin decor available this year includes a broad array of options spanning the spectrum of fresh decor trends, from woven rattan and corn husks to weathered stone and wood. They also include wooly knits, plaids and other patterns.
Fall Pillows and Throws
Pillows and throws are also textured, running the gamut from smooth suede, to nubby teddy bear knits, and long haired faux furs to woven patterns. This is where you can really appreciate and make use of an updated palette.
Fall Branches
The selection of stems seems to have exploded this year, with the usual mix of leaves and twiggy branches, joined by more sumptuous options like pampas grasses, bunny tails, and wheat stalks.
Other Fall Decor
You can also find a fabulous selection of vases, jugs and urns this year, as well as lanterns, candlesticks and the usual fare. Much of it is imbued with a fresh take on past options and the over-arching concept seems to offer a great big cozy hug to all who choose to participate.
Does this mean you need to buy all new decor this year? Of course not. Fall is fall and it all works together, but oh how fun to get a few new pieces!
Seasonal decorating is meant to add flavor and a hint of spice to life, and this year’s crop of products offers an exceptional opportunity to tap into that source of subtle pleasure.
Why not indulge a bit and enjoy the smorgasbord of fresh fall accents to add a layer of seasoning to your home?

I absolutely love the earthiness of this trend. I don’t see any links, what am I missing?
So glad you liked it! Did you not see the images in boxes at the bottom of the post? That’s where you click. It says ‘click below’ right above it.
Such a nice break from the oranges of fall. Love the warm colors and the look of different textures in pumpkins. My favorite would have to be the knit pumpkins!
Ah, so glad it resonated for you!! I will be exploring these trends much more thoroughly in my home as the season progresses… 🙂
Last year I invested a lot in velvet pumpkins to go all over my home and love them! How do I translate that into the trend that you have described in your blog? Seems they are at opposites!
I intend to show exactly that as the season progresses… 🙂 I think velvets work great with the nubby textured knits.
