What is it about winter that makes us want to decorate in all white?
Or is that just me?
Is it the reflection of the snow outside? Or a reaction to all the color we just packed away after the holidays?
I do find that with a new year, I crave a clean fresh start. I clean out closets and drawers, decluttering our home like a mad woman and take pleasure in neatly making the first entries in a brand new planner. I even clean out my purse!
But that doesn’t stop me from refreshing our decor for the season. All that organizing helps make room for a few new pieces and I love decorating for winter with two key directions in mind. The first is clean and simple, and the second is warm and cozy.
Perhaps this is why winter decor so often merges two seemingly opposite ideas, mixing loads of crisp white with rustic coarse bits of nature.
But it doesn’t take much to give a room a cozy winter feel. First clear away the clutter and then pay attention to your accessories. If you already have some of these items, now is the time to pull them out. Or maybe all that decluttering helped you figure out what new pieces you might add.
Home accessories are like jewelry. They can take a classic room with neutral furniture and make it into something really special. This is why I love seasonal decorating. I’ve curated this shopping guide with 12 winter accessories for a cozy home. It includes some of my usual favorites but most have a refreshing twist. Sweater blankets have been around for many years, but this year they’re chunkier than I could have ever imagined. Pine cones we’ve seen since we all were kids, but in white washed tones they’re new and fun. And the deer antler wine rack? I’m smitten!
It’s true, you can update even the most over-used item depending on how and with what you style it, so I won’t be leaving behind the bark candles and regular pine cones any time soon. But for today we’ll look at a dozen of my current faves and see if any speak to you. You’ll also note I’m playing with icy grey and similar neutrals so you’ll see plenty of those in these winter accessories, too. I think the rattan balls are my very favorite, simply because they define the palette.
