36 Winter Decorating Ideas to Cozy Up Your Home
In this post: For winter decor, icy grey blue can be both cool and cozy. These 36 winter decorating ideas will make your home warm and welcoming.⇒

Sometimes you just need a bit of peace and tranquility.
For me, that’s what January is all about. As much as I love the party atmosphere of the holidays, once the new year arrives, I like to take stock, re-group, and quiet things down for a while.
Cozy evenings at home with the fireplace going, movie nights with the family all curled up on the couch in a blanket, quiet walks in the chill air listening to the stillness of nature.
I like my environment at home to reflect that perspective, as well.

Peaceful Winter Decor Ideas
This is the time of year when I put all the color and glitz away. Whites and neutrals play a key role, as I like to look around and take in the visual serenity. Snippets of nature are welcome in the form of pine cones, twigs and bark.
To supplement the calming atmosphere I like to also play with touches of icy blue. Smoky and greyed over, it’s more of a hint than full on color. Think the color of the January sky across a range of weather conditions, from nearly white to a note of hushed color, and even the steely blue of a winter dusk.
When paired with a spectrum of whites, you have the balance such a palette needs, from classic white, to cream and ivory, and even beiges and tans.

Create a Cozy Home
In addition to placid colors, in January the notion of cozy rules the day. You want to be enveloped in warmth when you enter your home, both literally and figuratively. Hence blankets and throw pillows in sweaters knit and fur are welcome, and even ubiquitous in winter decor.
Lanterns for candlelight, plus votives and other candle holders take their place on the surfaces next to teacups and mugs, for the imbibing of hot liquids to keep our insides warm. The goal is for our winter homes to encourage snug and restful evenings of comfort and ease.

To create a cozy winter home, the first step is clear away the clutter. Pull out anything that causes visual friction and put it away for a while. Look around your spaces and make sure they the overriding impression is one of stillness and calm.
Next shop your own home for the items that have been stored since last winter and evaluate them honestly to see if they’ll add a sense of comfort to your environment.
Finally, decide what you’d like to add and use a discriminating eye to purchase only those things that perfectly fulfill your vision. This guide will set you off in the right direction, and you can also check out the others linked in pink below.
Stay warm. Stay calm. And don’t worry… spring is just around the corner.
