St. Patrick’s Day Decor: A Pretty Spring Tablescape

  • Facebook
  • Twitter

In this post: Looking for ideas for St. Patrick’s Day decor? Here’s a pretty spring tablescape that’s perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration.⇒

St. Patrick's Day spring tablescape

I hate plastic decorations.

I don’t mean all plastic, but you know the kind. Shiny and flimsy like they’re made out of the same material that Solo cups are made from. Table decorations for family celebrations should not look like you’re about to play beer pong with them.

I just don’t like my seasonal decor to look like it’s meant to be thrown out.

One of my favorite challenges is approaching a holiday, especially the ones that are generally known for kitsch, with an eye towards refinement that I feel all celebrations deserve.

St. Patrick's Day spring tablescape

St. Patrick’s Day is one such holiday, with stores brimming with fluorescent shamrocks and more green plastic than the eye can see. This never works for me, so I enjoyed styling an elegant St. Patrick’s Day tablescape fit for the upcoming cheerful spring season.

The basis of my concept was mixing emerald green tabletop accents with crisp Irish linen. A healthy dose of silver elevates the sophistication of the setting and the inclusion of classic spring flowers grounds the table in the correct time and place.

I wanted to stick pretty strictly to my color palette of kelly green and white, with only tiny hints of color added in very subtle ways.

The white hyacinths sum up exactly what I was going for, in color and in theme. The heavenly scent they offer is unmatched and I’m often one of the first to line up when they begin to appear at the market as the winter starts to fade.

St. Patrick's Day spring tablescape

My plate stack is multi-tiered starting with a wonderful silver charger, and progressing through pure white dinner plate, delicately embellished china dish, emerald glass salad plates and finally a lovely vintage fruit cup.

One of my favorite napkin combos is this sheer lime overlay clustered with white linen underneath, ringed by a crystal bracelet napkin holder.

Varied green glass bottles pepper the center of the table with pink silk tulip buds peeking out above the tops.

The faux green pears add a sculptural note, a conceit I’ve become accustomed to. I enjoy seeing a bit of height emerging from the plates.

The vision of the pink tulips adds a whisper of spring color, while the tablescape still reads as essentially green and white.

The white cane back chairs work well with this tablescape, as do the green gingham end chairs, lending a country feel with a pedigreed edge.

St. Patrick's Day spring tablescape

If you tossed in a few eggs, this could easily become an Easter table, or really any springtime dinner.

It’s a pleasure to begin thinking of spring and the renewal it brings with it. I look forward to more seasonal decorating with this pleasant time of year in mind.

And not a drop of shiny plastic.

Anywhere.
