Home Spa Bath: 5 Affordable Ways to Create a Luxury Bath in Your Home
In this post: After a long stressful day, who wouldn’t love to indulge in a spa bath? Here are 5 affordable ways to create a luxury bath in your home.⇒

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a yacht?
Or a castle in France? Or a fleet of Bentleys?
After all, who wouldn’t like a little luxury in their life? The truth is, luxury means different things to different people, and one person’s passion for designer extravagances is a huge waste of time and cash for someone else.
Yet in a world where our days can be filled with stress, it’s nice to secure our own little haven to retreat and recharge. And this is the perfect place to surround ourselves with attainable luxuries.

Luxury Bath
I talk a lot about small pleasures and little luxuries, and a home spa bath is an ideal setting to indulge in these things. There are countless lotions and potions we can acquire to add a sense of refinement to our day, but rather than wantonly collecting a range of high end cosmetics, I prefer to take more thought out approach, being selective in what I choose.
For me, luxury is about pleasing the senses, and so the indulgences I select offer this specific kind of joy. Today I’d like to look at 5 affordable ways to enjoy a bit of luxury in your spa-like bathroom!

1. Touch
I chose to start with the sense of touch, because a soak in a warm tub is nothing if not pleasing to our tired muscles.
But even more delicious is to wrap ourselves up in a soft plush robe when we step out of the bath. This is a great place to splurge a bit and get the yummiest fabric your wallet can afford. Similarly you can indulge in refined, lush towels, as they offer the same kind of tactile splendor.
Easier to spend a bit more on a lush robe than to buy that yacht!

2. Sound
This one has been made easier by the latest technology, so even if you don’t have the finest speakers built into your primary bath, a simple portable system will get the job done.
I have a thing for listening to French pop when I’m trying to relax, but whatever strikes your fancy is the perfect thing to listen to. Whether it’s classical, New Age or even basic white noise, pleasing the sense of sound can upgrade your bath routine to deluxe.

3. Taste
When making a luxury event out of time in the tub, it’s nice to bring in some food or drink. At day’s end I sometimes sip a glass of wine, but if earlier in the day a cup of tea is my drink of choice. As long as it’s relaxing, anything can work fine. You can even bring in sweets or fruit if that’s what makes you happy. Just think of what you might like if you were in the finest hotel, and then put it on your prettiest dishes and place it near your bath.

4. Smell
Interestingly, the sense of smell is almost as significant to me as the sense of sight, signaling emotions and memories alike. From scented soaps and candles to aromatic bath salts, nothing says spa bath quite like lovely smelling products.
Better still, add in some fresh flowers, and you have the recipe for a perfect bath.

5. Sight
Always one of my favorite of the senses, surrounding oneself with beauty is something many of us understand.
But not everyone extends that concept into the bathroom, and fewer still focus on the area around the tub. For me that means more than picking lovely tile, but rather actually adding artwork that enhances my aesthetic.
The four gorgeous pieces that rim my tub are reminiscent of classical drawings from roman times. They are printed on metal, making them far more durable than prints on paper would be.
You might also try a grouping of candlesticks, lush florals, and if you have shelves in the room, an array of favorite photos. Treat the bath like any other room in your home and make it as beautiful as possible.

When it comes to treating yourself well and de-stressing at the same time, a luxury bath can be a real treat. With all the senses engaged, it can’t help but be pleasurable.

And if your tub just happens to be on a yacht or in a French castle, you’ve mastered the luxury game like no other!

Katy
Thank you so much, Katy! The paint color is Benjamin Moore Tapestry Beige, which I use in most of my house, as well.
You ring my bell with the long, soaking bath! There is nothing like it to turn stress into bliss as you soak away the cares of the world!
My hubby knows how important this is to my well-being so one of his Christmas gifts of 2020 was a lovely bath tray that fits across the tub made of gorgeous wood that enhances my bath experience.
We are getting ready to redo 2 of our 4 bathrooms, so thank you for the post. I was already headed in your direction, but I love being validated.
Blessings,
Teresa

I have been following you for a long time. Your style is the style I love. In fact, I want to start painting some of my furniture. Thank you for responding to my message. Jean
Interestingly, the only sense that affects two areas of the brain is the sense of smell. It triggers a response in the brain for memory, and another trigger goes to the area for emotions. That is why sense of smell is so powerful. Did you know that Starbucks has patented their sense of smell for their coffee/lattes? It’s true. That is why it took so very long to begin selling its breakfast foods; they wanted to make sure the patented smell of coffee was not overtaken by muffins, or whatever. Who knew? !
Hi Lory,
Would you mind giving me a link or more information on the hardware of your vanity? If I am not mistaken, they look similar to the one in the kitchen? Thanks, Andrea
Our bathroom faucet is from California Faucets. It’s the satin gold finish. Here is a link: https://www.calfaucets.com/bathroom/faucets/creator?style=traditional&spout=111310&handles=498858&finish=1259#finish
It took a while once we ordered them and they were pricey, but very much worth the wait and price.
It’s similar in style to the kitchen faucet but the finish held up much better than the kitchen faucet.
