Lori, I enjoyed this post so much. I am currently struggling with whether or not my house is looking like a thrift shop! I have changed my nice Parson’s chairs for an assortment of chairs I painted white. I put them with a heavy, ornate iron, glass top table and it seems like they are different styles and are competing with each other. I also struggle mixing the French Country style with my love for French antiques. It is hard to tie it all together with an open floor plan. This post has inspired me to step back and look at everything with a new approach. Thanks for a great article!

  2. Thank you for posting this! I have encountered a number of these issues but get stuck sometimes. This information makes it much more clear on what I can do to update my home without getting rid of everything that I like.

Great information, as always, Lory! I love checking out your sources and made a decision on how to redo our powder room that all guests use based on your photo montage in yours. I finally gave in!

    New project!

    Thank you so much!
    Blessings, Teresa

Thank you for this thoughtful and helpful post!

  5. Lory, I love your style, and your updates! I find that I am always taking your inspiration and tweaking my “I don’t know what it is” style and incorporating a little french touch! I have a question…it’s about your master. Your color choice was surprising for the walls, but it works! How did you choose that? I did something similar with a super bright gold in my family room…and surprisingly it works as well! I chose it to be a little out of my comfort zone. what was your motivation? Been a fan for a few years 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! Believe it or not, the inspiration for the green walls was an envelope I used from a set of thank you notes for a formal party we hosted years ago. I loved it so much as it always said spring to me. I recently painted our bedroom a neutral color, and I’m already thinking of going back to the green. It made me so happy!!

  6. I recently had my ceilings scraped. Why do they do that in new builds? It was tastefully done as far as textured ceilings go but I wanted them to be clean, flat ceilings. I also had all my baseboards and window/door trim beefed up and painted bright white. Now they make a statement. I hesitate to put my drapes back up because it will hide the pretty trim. I may go with Roman blinds inset in the window as they are deep enough. My newly renovated baths are white cabinets, marble look quartz countertops, with the palest of grey tiled floors. Of course, nice white towels were added. It was a costly renovation in today’s costs but I love my home even more. I did update the lighting in the baths, laundry room and guest room to more modern. I haven’t found the perfect chandelier for our primary bedroom but I am looking. The chandelier in my other guest room is darling and has history so I’m not replacing that one. I love my chandelier hanging in my cathedral ceiling great room and it was costly so that stays. My walls are a pale griege. I find it calming while some might find it boring, my kids included.
Loved this post! I’m going to take a good look today and see if I should remove any items from the rooms. I don’t like clutter so it is doubtful but….

    1. It sounds like you’ve really done a nice job with your home and continue to improve it. You will most certainly enjoy it and it will enhance your days!!
