In this post: Now is the time to order fall table decorations to create a warm cozy home. It’s not too early to think about your Thanksgiving tabletop decor, too.⇒
Did you ever spend an entire night searching for something online, finally place the order and then receive a confirmation with a delivery date that’s 3 months later?
Yeah, me too. 😞
In fact it just happened to me when I was looking for some new fall plates! It makes you think, ‘do you think I could get my order before the season has passed?’
I have a habit of shopping too late but this year, I figured, why not start at the beginning of the season when I have my pick of the litter? Why settle for slim pickings or delivery dates in time for next year?
Given long order lead times, now is the time to start thinking about setting your fall tables.
And with small home gatherings making up the bulk of our holiday celebrating, there’s even more incentive to make our fall table decorations special.
Today I’m joining with a great group of bloggers to bring you a wonderful new series called “The Emporium”.
It’s like going into your local emporium with stalls from different vendors, each offering their own selections. We will be changing it up seasonally and this month we’ve curated a broad array of fall decor, by category, for your shopping pleasure.
Be sure to visit each of the categories at the bottom of this post!
For this month’s edition I’ve chosen fall tableware as my category, with four sub-categories including plates, chargers, napkins and glassware. These strike me as the key items that can be combined together to create a unique and very special autumn table. Whether you’re planning small casual gatherings at home or waiting for Thanksgiving, treating yourself to some new tabletop decor can infuse your home get-togethers with a sense of celebration.
Fall and Thanksgiving Plates
My favorite way to set a table is with printed plates on top of the stack for optimal color and to tell the story.
I often use dinner plates in a solid color peeking out beneath to either highlight a color from the patterned plate or simply to save money by only buying the smaller salad plates. But if you’d like your guests to eat their dinner on the decorative plate, you can buy the set in both sizes or get the dinner plate only.
In either case, this selection of fall dinnerware has something for everyone, from classic and traditional to more whimsical and fresh. There are pumpkins, pheasants, leaves and more.

Charger Plates
For chargers I often go with texture and fall is the season where textures abound. There are woods and faux woods, rattan and other weaves. Or on the opposite end of the spectrum I’ve included the sleek look of copper or gilt edged glass. There are decorative edgings on solid pieces and even a few plaids to mix with patterned plates.
A charger is sometimes a bit more of an investment, so I try to pick versatile styles that can be used over and over. Check the items closely because many come in sets, so the listed price is often for more than one piece.

Glassware
At first thought it seems hard to picture what you can do to glassware to make it specifically seasonal, but in fact there are a lot of elements that communicate fall. There’s solid glass in fall colors, or patterns and motifs printed on glass. There’s warm metals like gilt rimmed goblets and copper mules. There’s also copper stemmed wine glasses, as well as rattan trim tumblers. When mixed with the other tableware these pieces add a lovely complement to your fall table.

Napkins
Since I love mixing patterns, adding linens to the array provides one more opportunity to add complexity to the table. Fall is rife with lush imagery and using these elements to embellish your napkins can up your tablescape game. There are prints comprised of pumpkins, leaves, florals and more, plus embroideries and jacquards for another layer of florish. Hemstitch napkins in autumn colors and laundered linens with a casual flavor round out the package.

If you order early you can ensure your choices are available and you’ll have plenty of time for delivery delays.
And then you won’t be disappointed when you get that confirmation saying your favorite plates are coming a couple of months down the road!

I ordered the very same pumpkin salad plates you are featuring in your photos last fall, way pre-COVID, and they didn’t come until Christmas with no explanation, so, yes, order early!
Oh no, sorry to hear that! Well, at least you’ll have them for this year. I didn’t include the new set I ordered in the post because I’m not sure they’ll be here for the season. You just may see them for Christmas this year!
I love this series Lory – so nice to have an easy selection! Thanks for the reminder to order early too! 🙂 Hope you have a lovely day over there!
Thank you so much, Barbara!!
