Using Classic Hotel Bedding to Add Luxury to a Grey Bedroom

How many people do you know that buy a new house and decorate it from top to bottom as soon as they move in?

Not too many, I’d guess.

Most of us decorate in stages, with each purchase hopefully made to add something special and purposeful to the room. Today I want to talk about using classic hotel bedding to add luxury to the bedroom.

When we first moved into our home a few years ago, my goal was to get the bedrooms set up to be functional and comfortable.

From a design standpoint, I has also laid the foundation for the general look in each room, but pretty much all of them had areas that needed to be completed.

To be honest, even now, they still do.

Grey Bedroom

The grey bedroom was designed to be my adult daughter’s bedroom.

She has her own apartment, but we wanted to keep a room for her to feel comfortable and at home in when she stayed with us. As such, the accent color is her favorite pale lilac and the rest of the room is all youthful greys and whites.

I was really happy with the overall concept and much of it came together as I’d hoped, but there were two glaring issues.

One was an error and the other was something we just hadn’t gotten to yet. Both were solved with one simple purchase.

The first issue was that we had not gotten around to getting a duvet cover. I knew I wanted something in white, so it was easy enough to look past the basic comforter insert which was made from a lovely tonal jacquard fabric.

That is, until someone commented on a share of my post that the duvet needed a cover!

Well, of course I knew that, but… who had the time, with everything else we were doing?

The second issue was simply a mistake. I’m fairly good at visualizing fabric mixes, but we all make tweaks once we see the real thing.

I was trying to mix a variety of greys, some with warm taupe undertones and others truer greys. The silvery taupe shams I bought were really pretty, but they never really worked with the color palette.

Sometimes you need to cut your losses and replace the offending item. I know some day there will be a room I’m decorating that these beautiful shams will be a perfect fit for.

But this is not that room.

So imagine my delight when I found a duvet cover and shams, all in one set, that were the perfect answer to both problems!

I’m a true classicist (even though I love to use accessories to add individuality to a space). I’ve been a fan of the look of hotel bedding for some time, and the double embroidered borders signal a luxury and comfort that you’d find in a 5 star hotel.

I love to travel.

I love classic white bedding.

I love quality.

Sign me up!!

With moody grey walls and lilac pops of color, the crisp white bedding was exactly what was in order!

I chose to go with the duvet cover and 2 standard shams, as well as the smaller boudoir pillow sham. I’m in love with how well it works with the menswear feel in this room.

But there’s something else…

What you can’t really see but I’ve also added is a plush lofty comforter inside the duvet cover, to add to the luxurious feel of this room’s comfy bedding.

Can anything be more inviting than a crisp bed with sumptuous linens, all available at an affordable price?

You can thank me later…

In the end, this very simple update made a big difference to this room.

And anything I can do to get my daughter to want to visit overnight is definitely a big plus!
